POSITIONS IN ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS
Education Specialist – Hospitality and Catering Services Ref No: GTVETC 01/01/2019 Salary: R 328 901.00 (Post Level 2)

A three-year National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or NCV level 4 recognized Degree/Diploma in Hospitality Services (Hotel and Catering), which must contain a teaching certification. Experience instructing for at least three years, especially in a TVET college. Assessor and Assessor-in-Training (Moderation will serve as a recommendation). Comprehensive understanding of academic assessment and moderation rules. Knowledge of the TVET College landscape and relevant DHET policies for teaching and learning. The ability to work under duress and meet deadlines. Strong communication, monitoring, and evaluation skills, as well as negotiation, networking, reporting, dispute resolution, and problem-solving abilities.

Strong project and event management abilities. Ability to objectively manage performance and deliver critical comments. Proven track record of successfully managing and organizing the implementation of specified objectives while collaborating with a diverse group of professionals. Registration with the SACE. Computer expertise is required (MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint). Travel and extended working hours may be required, so a valid driver’s license is required.

Duties:

Assist with student recruiting, registration, and orientation. Students’ academic and career progress should be facilitated. Prepare and deliver classes in accordance with the College Teaching and Learning Plan, the Campus schedule, and the College’s Quality Management system. Assess students, record grades, analyze, interpret results, take appropriate corrective action, and keep track of ICASS and ISAT records. Allow textbooks and student packs to be distributed more easily. Manage and track the attendance of both staff and students. As part of the departmental plan, prepare and give lectures to students.

Manage your own class attendance records, assessments, examinations, and year marks, as well as all other responsibilities. Prepare the POAs and POEs and manage them. Assist with the management and implementation of Work-Based Experience (WBE) and Lectures Workplace Integrated Learning for students (WIL). Ensure the department’s smooth operation and provide frequent reports to the department’s head. Within the department, chair subject meetings.
