All existing loans on the TEFSA books were transferred to NSFAS.

Is Nsfas Available to TVET Colleges?

Application Date for Nsfas 2024/2025

The application period opened in November 2024 and closed in January 2025. They encourage institutions to notify students to ensure that they apply and have all the relevant supporting documents as applications submitted after the closing date will not be considered.

Qualification Criteria

  • Only South African citizens are eligible for this bursary scheme;
  • A student must be registered or intending to register on a PLP, NC(V), or Report 191 program at any of the fifty (50) public TVET Colleges in South Africa;
  • Must require financial assistance (NSFAS will determine whether or not a student meets the financial eligibility criteria);
  • Returning students must demonstrate proven and accepted academic performance (academically deserving) in line with the College’s progression policy or the progression prescriptions of the Bursary Rules and Guidelines (whichever is higher);
  • Must not be enrolling for a qualification that duplicates previous learning that was state-funded; and
  • Applicants will qualify if they fall within the maximum threshold of up to R350,000 of combined gross family income per annum and are admitted/received a firm offer for enrolment in a College.

Required documents:

  • Signed bursary application form
  • 5 Certified copies of I.D.
  • Proof of income (grant, pensions, etc) of both parents OR
  • The affidavit, if parents/sponsor/guardians are unemployed, deceased or their whereabouts, are not known
  • Latest academic results of the applicant (average of 40%)
  • Proof of residence
  • I.D. or birth certificates of all household members
  • Reports of all students in the household

HOW TO APPLY

  • To begin, you must create your myNSFAS account
  • After that, you click the Apply tab
  • Update all your NSFAS online Application 2024-2025 information.
  • Upload your supporting documents
  • Submit your application by clicking on the “SUBMIT” button

  • Visit www.nsfas.org.za and create your myNSFAS account.
  • Once you have filled in all required information, click on the ‘Submit’ option to complete your application and note your application Reference number.
  • Track the progress of your application on your myNSFAS account.
