NSFAS Allowance Dates 2024 For Tvet Colleges; NSFAS application opening date 

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a bursary that helps students specifically from South Africa who wish to attend any college of their choice but don’t have the financial support to fund themselves. This initiative has helped a lot of students throughout their college endeavors.

NSFAS will open their application portal on the 28th of September 2023 and interested persons must apply before the due date, 31 January 2024. Their mission is to transform NSFAS into an efficient and effective provider of financial aid to students from poor and working-class families in a sustainable manner that promotes access to, and success in, higher and further education and training, in pursuit of South Africa’s national and human resource development goals.

  • Type in first names (as per ID number)
  • Type in Surname (as per ID number)
  • Type in your ID number (will your username)
  • Type in your own Email address
  • Type in your own cell phone number
  • Accept terms and conditions Tick the box provided, to allow NSFAS to check the information provided (compulsory)
  • Create a Password, To (protect your account)

ID numbers, Names, and Surnames are validated against the Department of Home Affairs database. Only valid South African ID information will be accepted.

HOW TO APPLY FOR NSFAS

  • To begin, you must create your myNSFAS account
  • After that, you click the Apply tab
  • Update all your NSFAS online Application 2023-2024 information.
  • Upload your supporting documents
  • Submit your application by clicking on the “SUBMIT” button

You will need the following to complete your NSFAS application:

  • Your own cellphone number and email address
  • Copy of your ID or birth certificate
  • ID copies of parents, guardian, or spouse (If applicable)
  • Your proof of income or 1 year’s IRP5 (if applicable)
  • Your parents, guardian, or spouse’s proof of income
  • If you are a SASSA grant recipient, no proof of income will be required
  • Applicants with a disability must submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form, Click here to download
  • An applicant who is recognized as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development must provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child

Once your funding application becomes successful, NSFAS will cover your costs for:

  • Accommodation
  • Transport
  • Living allowance
  • Learning material allowance
  • Personal care allowance

If you are studying at the University of South Africa (UNISA) you will receive funding for:

  • Tuition
  • Books (subject to the number of modules registered)
  • Personal care allowance

Who qualifies for the Bursary?

You qualify for an NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in 2024 or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college and you meet the following requirements:

  • SASSA recipients automatically qualify for financial eligibility
  • Your combined household income is not more than R350 000 per year or
  • A person with a disability with a combined household income of not more than R600 000 per year or
  • Must have email and cell phone number

Your NSFAS application will not be considered if you

  • already had NSFAS funding in 2024.
  • have already completed an undergraduate degree/diploma.
  • are not South African citizens.
  • need funding for a short learning certificate or program.
  • need funding for a postgraduate qualification, with the exception of the following qualifications:
  • BTech – Architecture / Architectural Technology
  • BTech – Engineering (all disciplines), Cartography, Forestry
  • BTech – Biokinetics, Biomedical Technology, Biotechnology
  • BTech – Chiropractic, Homoeopathy, all Nursing
  • BTech – Clinical or Dental Technology, Emergency Medical Care
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education
