In South Africa, there are 50 registered and certified public TVET colleges with roughly 364 campuses scattered across the country’s rural and urban areas. Students pursue technical and occupational education and training through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges.

They are the optimal place to study if you want to start a career in a certain professional position, or technical vocation, or if you want to create your own business one day. Technical and Vocational Education and Training courses are vocational or occupational in character, which means that the student obtains education and training with the goal of pursuing a certain set of jobs, employment, or entrepreneurial opportunities.

Some students may be eligible for admission to a University of Technology to continue their studies at a higher level in the same field of study that they were studying at the TVET College under specific circumstances.

Requirements for Tvet Colleges

Before attempting to apply, all qualifying applicants who wish to study at the College must ensure that they have the following items:

  • A unique/valid Email address and cellphone number
  • 3 certified copies of the ID of the Parent/Legal Guardian
  • 3 certified copies of the ID of the Learner
  • South African applicants will need an ID number.
  • Foreign applicants will need their certified copies of passport numbers.
  • Copy of your school qualifications (eg Senior Certificate)
  • A certified copy of your latest results/Grade 9 or Higher;
  • Proof of Residence.
  • SAQA-approved foreign qualifications
  • Proof of medical insurance or cover
  • Valid study permit

How to Apply To Tvet Colleges

Step 1: Get your application form.

All new applications are online:

Step 2: Complete your application form in full

Verification of e-mail, ID, and cell phone number. Your ID, e-mail, and cell phone are used to authenticate you.

Step 3: Attach all supporting documents.

All applicants starting a new qualification are required to upload the following certified documents:

  • Birth Certificate/Identity Document (Proof of application for new ID/Passport)
  • Certificates/Qualifications
  • Recent Academic results
  • Municipal billing document/other account statements (not older than 3 months)
  • A valid study permit (Foreign national students)
  • The South African Qualification Authority’s (SAQA) Evaluation Certificate (foreign qualifications).
