Which Colleges Offer Nsfas

Do you wish to study or are already studying at a public TVET college and come from a family with an income of R350 000 or less? then this article will be of great importance to you. NSFAS, a South African government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges. Currently, there are about fifty(50) public Tvet Colleges which work hand in hand with Nsfas to provide bursaries to its students.  The amount indicated by Nsfas is for accommodation, living allowance, transport and learning materials and needs to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines.

Students who have completed a previous qualification, students with a combined household income of more than R350 000 per annum and students who have already applied, qualified and received funding are not eligible to apply again or to receive funds. They are automatically funded for the duration of their studies provided they pass their modules and meet the academic requirements.

Nsfas Online Application Date Open And Closing For 2024/2025

  • South African public college students who wish to apply for Nsfas for the academic year 2024 are to begin the online application in November 2024. The NSFAS application deadline for colleges will be in January 2025. Applications that will be submitted after the application deadline cannot be processed.

Who Is Eligible As A College Student For Nsfas

The following are the ones that qualify to apply for Nsfas:

  • South African citizens or permanent residents
  • SASSA grant recipients
  • Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 per year
  • Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
  • Must have an email account and cell phone number.

What Does Nsfas Cover For College Students

Once your funding application becomes successful, NSFAS will cover your costs for:

  • Accommodation
  • Living allowance
  • Learning material allowance
  • Personal care allowance

How Much Does Nsfas Give To College Students

Nsfas gives the following amounts the cater to the following:

  • Accommodation in an urban area is R24,000 per annum
  • Accommodation in a peri-urban area is R18,900 per annum
  • Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350  per annum
  • Transport R7000 per annum
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum

Compulsory Documents Needed By Students From Colleges When Applying For Nsfas

Applicants for Nsfas are required to upload the following documents:

  • Consent Form;
  • Complete and sign the form
  • South Africa Identity Document: Certified copy ID(not older than 3 months, Certified copies of parent/s or guardian ID or Death certificate
  •  Proof of Income
  • PWD(Persons with Disability): Complete the disability form
  • Latest Academic Result

  • Go to www.nsfas .org .za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’tab
  • Create a myNSFAS account
  • Click on the APPLY tab and complete the sections on the screen
  • Upload the required supporting documents when applicable
  • Click on Submit
