NSFAS is a government entity under the Department of Higher Education and Training established according to the NSFAS Act (Act 56 of 1999) to provide financial support to disadvantaged students who wish to further their studies at public universities or TVET colleges.
What does the bursary cover?
Amounts indicated for accommodation, living allowance, transport, and learning materials need to be aligned with the approved latest DHET guidelines
TVET
- Accommodation in an urban area R24,000 per annum
- Accommodation in a peri-urban area R18,900 per annum
- Accommodation in a rural area is R15,750 per annum
- Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7,350 per annum
- Transport R7000 per annum
- Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per annum
Who qualifies for NSFAS funding?
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- A person with disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Students who started studying before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.
How to Apply for SEDCOL Students’ Financial Aid
In order to apply for your school’s Financial Aid, you must have registered with the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) following the format displayed on this portal HERE.
Follow the details below to apply for the Students’ Financial Aid;
Prospective applicants/students should apply through their school student’ portal by following the instructions below:
- Log on to your school’s student portal, if you’re yet to have an account, Sign Up immediately.
- Once you’re logged in, search for the NSFAS application, then apply with your reg. number, or username and password.
- From time to time, view the NSFAS Database www.nsfas.org.za, to check your confirmation and clearance.
Moreover, students can register to be considered for discounts, bursaries, and other forms of funding and financial aid benefits on the NSFAS Database. Registering on the NSFAS database is not a guarantee that you will receive funding assistance, but it will help NSFAS to find you if there are suitable opportunities available. However, the database is open to all students regardless of household income, study programs, or year of study.
