Which TVET Colleges Offer Matric Rewrite:

Sometimes taking a turn is necessary when setting out on a path to a prosperous future. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges provide a lifeline through matric rewrite programs for students who didn’t receive their desired matriculation results the first time around. We’ll look at the possibilities provided by several TVET colleges in this post to help people retake their matriculation examinations and open doors to new opportunities.

Many students in South Africa don’t get to complete their Matric year or even reach their Matric year due to many reasons, such as leaving school to start providing for their families who are struggling financially. Others also find themselves in a position where they didn’t pass the Matric year.

Some of these students usually want to attempt to complete their matric at a later stage so that they can apply for certain jobs or apply to a university or college. Sometimes this involves going back to their high school to redo their matric year but now there are many alternative ways to do this.

Why Do TVET Colleges Offer Matric Rewrites?

TVET colleges’ matric rewrite programs are intended to give students a second chance to enhance their matriculation grades. These programs are especially beneficial for people looking to further their education, improve their employment prospects, or pursue their own academic goals.

So can you do matric at a TVET College?

The answer is yes you can. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges are educational institutions where students receive education and training with a view toward a specific range of jobs, employment, or entrepreneurial possibilities. After completing a qualification at a TVET College, students might qualify for admission to a University of Technology to continue their studies at a higher level in the same field of study.

TVET Colleges offer an opportunity to complete matric to people who have completed Grade 9 and there is usually no age restriction. You can receive a National Vocational Certificate (NCV) on Levels 2,3 and 4 which are equivalent to Grades 10, 11, and 12. So if you are looking to complete matric you will just have to obtain an NCV Level 4 at a TVET College, which is on the same academic level as a Matric Certificate. The emphasis for an NCV qualification is however on technical skills.

Those wanting to redo Matric would normally only be able to register for the subjects that they have failed before or have done before and want to improve; in other words, you cannot replace one subject with another.  In this case, the student would have to contact the relevant TVET College and enquire about their options for redoing matric. Some TVET Colleges even offer the chance to redo Matric, either part-time or full-time.

Where do I register for the matric upgrade for 2024?

Adults who are eligible to take the Senior Certificate test in 2024 must register between  October 2024 and February 2025. Candidates can register either in person at any provincial education office, including the district office or a circuit office, OR online at www.eservices.gov.za.
